Literacy
‘when responding to great works of literature, the reader is changed and becomes something other than they were before.’
Harding
Literacy is fundamental, not only to how we communicate with each other, our personal and social development, but also to our ability to understand, explore, evaluate, and explain our thinking. Consequently, it is vital in enabling us to function effectively in society. Because of this, developing children’s literacy skills is of paramount importance and is reflected through teaching English both as a subject in its own right and throughout our curriculum at Deneia Primary Academy.
Quite simply, our intention is for every child to read and write confidently, independently and fluently with understanding by the end of Year 6. We want every child to leave our academy very well prepared to access the next stage of their education and learning.
